Usually caused when you modify your JVM arguments to add RAM, and incorrectly leave out the default Minecraft arguments. Solution: Uncheck your JVM arguments. OR Modify them correctly, only change the -Xmx variable. Change -Xmx1G from to -Xmx2G or -Xmx3G, etc, depending on how much memory...

Probably 3.2 if he does have reach. I can't get settings as you would have to ask another person.
