Yes, it does drop your frames tremendously depending on the range that you have set. I just want to elaborate a bit more on what Dismissive have said. It drops your frames because it has to load all the blocks. Think of it as turning your render distance to the maximum. If you set the range to 50, it will only show the blocks that you have desired 50 blocks away from you. If you use 100 blocks which is the highest you can go, it will load any blocks that you choose 100 blocks away from you. Nevertheless, it all comes down to your PC parts. If you have a good gaming PC, then find frames is not an issue for you since you can probably get over 500 frames with a decent GPU.
