I'm thinking of getting this client, but I was told the client checks for both the correct HWID and the correct IP address when launching. Does this mean that I won't be able to use the client when I'm using a VPN?

You can use Vape on a VPN.
Just inject it so it's in your client, then activate the VPN. Easy.
