Sure but it'll expand the userbase alot. There's probably a reason why Slinky for example did it.
yeah but vape focuses on ux. slinky tbh doesnt. i mean u cant make everyone happy. better a client that doesnt support everything but with a good ux. i would disagree with linux tbh. mac is a diffrent thing. but i dont see a point in linux. 90% use windows for gaming. linux is functional but not made for comfort.
edit: i mean we gotta be fair to the team behind vape.

There are literal linux operating systems made specifically optimized for gaming, every single game that support Linux natively and almost every other game that works under proton works better on linux than on windows, also supporting linux is way easier than supporting macos, for linux they just need to make a loader that injects in linux, for macos they need to pay apple to even be able code it, and then they have to make the client support a whole another cpu architecture, its just not happening, there is a reason no client have been made to be injectable in macos, while clients that support linux are already quite a bit

Also what does ux have to do with anything, adding support for linux wont change anything for windows users, they gonna keep using it like they are used to, they will just add an option in downloads that says "for linux download this" and a few steps to make it work on linux under the docs and thats it

We'll see. Who knows. The least we can do is show interest in Linux compatibility. Might give Manthe more reason to give it a shot. In that email reply he said not likely, which is already better than a hard no 😂

This sounds like a bunch of bullshit ngl... You gotta try some linux distros fr they are so good for performance.

for performance yes. for comfort? nah
Comfort depends on the distro, if you use ubuntu or debian or linux mint your pc will always be fine with no problems or troubleshooting etc, same as windows or even better considering the issues with the updates windows has been rolling out lately

"Minecraft is running on linux" doesnt mean a windows injection client does that. hooks, native dlls, overlays and launcher behavior.
linux uses diffrent apis, permissions. process models. graphic stack quirks.
Porting alone is not the hard part alone. support is. you have ubuntu arch fedora debian mint.

Linux users exist sure. but only a fraction of them even play minecraft. only a fraction of them would use vape. so linux is not a massive market.

the java part might be portable but the injection loader hook native or system level parts are probably not.

all of this wouldnt be a thing of 20 mins. so it makes sense that manthe says no. it wouldnt even bring him money. just extra work tbh

If you have a brain to type and search you can use linux and its a lot more optimized than windows with no bloat

While it might seem since there a lot of distros it will be hard to support them all, thats not the case, since they all use almost the same libraries, the difference is in the versions mostly, lets say the loader works on debian for example, then it pretty much works on ubuntu and arch etc, even if there was some sort of problem on arch or arch based distros it will be that the name of that library changed with the version change, but thats easily fixable and rarely happens

ikr currently I find linux to be way more comfortable than windows. That's the only reason I'm not using windows cause it's harder to use for my case.

Linux was not intended for games. And it would pull vape away alot of time since Linux would need tons of support. I mean windows is free. Or use it in a VM. Works great.
thats easy to say if your hardware is fine but if you rock 8 gigs of ram you are going to notice how poorely optimized windows really is. For me even going in the start menu has loading time and the ram consumtion is always at 4,7 gigs idle even with a clean install and debloat. Even distros with comparably high ram needs (fedora with kde plasma etc) i dont even reach 3 gigs of idle ram consumption. Also i get 400 fps on linux vs 140 on windows
