You mean attack range? The range doesn't matter as watchdog doesn't detect reach. Hits above ~3,5 are blocked though so there's no point in using above maybe like 4 attack range at most.

I meant the attacks per second, currently I've got mine on 12-16 but was wondering if I could bump it up higher like 14-20

Yes you can use any as long as you don't go above 20.
